Success in your
home based business requires you to allocate
the time and energy needed to manage your business.
When you work for someone else, you are
motivated to get up in the morning so the paycheck keeps coming
in. A home based business allows you to set your own hours and
your own schedule. You may decide to work 4 hours a day, five
days a week or you may confine your work to week-ends only. Of
course, this depends on the type of home business you
operate.
To grow your home based business will require
you to put in time up-front to develop the business. It may
require more hours than you anticipated. You have to be willing
to set a schedule and manage your time so that the needed tasks
can be accomplished. Time management is something we all have
to work on to make sure we use it wisely.
Prioritize your daily tasks. Determine what
must be done today and complete those tasks. Complete each one
before starting on another one. When you have completed the
most important tasks of your day, you can start on those that
are needed to help you grow your business. For example, if the
first task was to resolve a problem and if that is a problem
that could re-occur, create a place for it in your procedure
manual. The next time, the problem comes up you will not have
to think about what needs to be done. You will the resolution
in front of you. Add to that procedure the different variations
that may occur. This will save you time.
There are other tasks you need to think about.
You want to grow your business so you need to spend time
learning about the changes in the industry and thinking
and planning long term strategies. Set aside the time in
your schedule for these activities. When you start a new
long-term project, do not forget to put it in your
schedule. If you preparing a new product you should set a
beginning date and ending date and determine how much time
you need to devote to it each day.
In this step of the process, you need to
Allocate the time needed to conduct your business.
Manage your time so that each day is productive.
Manage the stress that comes with starting and
growing your business.
Manage your finances.
Manage your client/customer base.
Manage your office.
Allocate time for strategic planning.
On the other hand, you must not reach
"burn-out" before your business starts earning the goals you
have set for yourself. Do not forget to schedule in time for
errands, your family, your friends, and just as important -
yourself.
